Cool, calm, classic – blue socks are the perfect pop to add to your wardrobe for anyone looking to effortlessly inject some colour. We asked LSC friend and celebrity stylist Michael Fisher to share his tips for incorporating this blue hue. And having styled the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal Bryan Cranston, Dan Stevens and Adam Driver (often in LSC socks), he knows what he’s talking about.
Blue is the colour of optimism – despite the emotional reference! Elements in nature – like bodies of water, crashing waves, crisp bright skies – all convey a sense of cleansing, and a clear feeling of good things on the horizon. Wearing blue conveys a sense of serenity and calming effect when worn. It’s an ideal reset colour.;
A great combo is olive green with Midnight Blue. Keep it casual in a green nylon jacket and work pants, add a midnight blue tee and the socks with a clean, white trainer. Another favourite is piling on shades of blue. A chore jacket, and matching pants, washed navy tee with blue socks, and black shoes. For a smarter look, try a tropical wool, mid-grey suit, white collared polo shirt, and blue socks. Even better – show the socks off with a cool cropped trouser.
Blue socks are a strong base colour that can really be worn with almost every other colour. As an accent colour, it pops against greys, browns and neutrals. As a tonal statement with indigo pieces, and navys. And for the ultimate edgy, statement try it against black or white.
The Simply Sartorials in that pure Midnight Blue are great against warm contrasting colours like orange, yellow, maroon and gold.
Blue tinted sunglasses or optical lenses are a great style trick to refresh your look. A bright blue workwear jacket or bomber always gets attention and looks bold without being too flashy. Other accessories like pocket squares, ties or light weight sweaters can really compliment any look (especially if you have blue eyes!) and can transition dressing occasions from a day/office look to an evening/date night.
